Orlando Pace released by Rams

Orlando Pace is one of the greatest tackles of all-time. He was drafted in 1997 number 1 overall and sicne has been the Rams starting left tackle and gone to seven pro-bowls. He had injury troubles in 2006 and 2007, but in 2008 he was able to start 14 games. In those 14 games, he only allowed two sacks and committed two penalties. The Rams released him mainly to free up some cap space.

I think the 49ers should make an offer to Pace. He is old at 33, but not too old to get a one or two year deal. The 49ers brought Larry Allen at the end of his career and in his first season Gore ran for 1,695 and Allen was selected as a Pro-Bowl alternate. I think Orlando Pace can be a great addition. He is not the player he once was, but I'm sure he can be a capable RT. The 49ers are in desperate need of a Right tackle and are considering taking one with the 10th overall pick in the draft. He will probably get a deal along the lines of a 2 year/$8 or 8 million. The 49ers have a lot of money after being very inactive during free agency. Even if Pace is just a one year player, he can really help out the O-Line with his knowledge and experience for that one year.

Pace would be like a coach on the field and he is worth the risk because the 49ers have money to spend. I say give him a chance, but don't ignore RT in the draft.
